Im Jahr 1992 startete Marvel Comics einen neuen Imprint mit dem Titel Marvel 2099. Dieser spielte in einer futuristischen Zukunft und zeigte uns unterschiedliche Zukunfts-Versionen von bekannten Helden, Schurken und Gruppen. Allen voran Spider-Man 2099 Miguel O´Hara und die X-Men 2099 erlangte große Popularität. Im Jahr 1998 endete das Projekt Marvel 2099 zunächst, viele Helden dieser alternativen Zukunft hatte indes innerhalb der letzten 30 Jahren oftmals weitere Auftritte in laufenden Serien. Nun kündigte Marvel in seiner Vorschau für die Neuerscheinungen im November diesen Jahres eine Rückkehr in die Marvel Zukunft Marvel 2099 in Form eines Crossovers an.
